Cancer Research UK Thank You Lunch

Published: 22 September 2016

The House of Lords welcomed 100 guests for the Cancer Research UK Thank You Lunch.

Senate Publishing Chairman, Lord David Evans was delighted to host this annual event, an opportunity to recognise and thank high profile and influential ambassadors for their support of the charity. Guests were welcomed by Lord Evans in a reception against the backdrop of the Thames. Frances Milner, Co-Executive Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships gave an update on the charity’s ground-breaking work, and a fascinating research update was given by the enigmatic Professor Richard Gilbertson, Director of the Cambridge Cancer Centre at Cambridge University.

During the afternoon a particularly inspirational supporter was presented with the ‘Special Achievement Award’ for his outstanding contribution to Cancer Research UK. Paul Corbett has taken part in the Great North Run over 20 times, often enlisting up to 20 friends, colleagues and family members to run with him. Over 20 years he has raised more than £320,000 towards Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. Receiving no Government funding, this ground-breaking research relies entirely on the generosity of supporters. The annual House of Lords lunch provides an opportunity to recognise some of Cancer Research UK’s most generous supporters and share updates on the impact their donations are having.
